Optimise your health.
Enhance your results.

At Enova Surgery, we believe that preparation is just as important as the procedure itself. By making a few intentional changes to your lifestyle in the weeks before surgery, you can reduce your risk of complications and support a smooth, confident recovery.

We are invested in the success of your procedure, and the guidance below will help you to achieve your best outcome.

Nutrition & Diet

Eat well. Heal well.

Good nutrition builds the foundation for recovery.

  • Protein is key – aim for lean sources like chicken, eggs, beans, and Greek yogurt.
  • Colourful vegetables – these are rich in antioxidants and vitamins that aid wound healing.
  • Healthy fats – from sources like avocados, nuts, and olive oil, these support cell repair.
  • Hydration – drink at least 1.5–2 litres of water daily unless told otherwise.
  • Avoid crash dieting or restrictive eatingbefore surgery – it can impair your healing and increase complication risks.

Tip: Start at least 4–6 weeks before surgery for best results.

Supplements & Medications

Some help. Some don’t.

Let us know everything you’re taking – even natural products.

START a Multivitamin: A standard A-Z multivitamin with iron, zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin A can be beneficial if your diet is lacking. This does not have to be expensive – an own-brand from supermarkets will do!

STOP the following 2 weeks before surgery (they can increase bleeding):

  • Fish oil, omega-3
  • Vitamin E
  • Turmeric, ginkgo, garlic, ginseng
  • Non-prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs (like ibuprofen or naproxen)

Always discuss all medications and supplements with us in your pre-op assessment.

Smoking & Nicotine

This one matters the most.

Fact: Smokers have up to 3x the complication rate after breast surgery.

Nicotine affects blood flow and slows healing. It increases the risk of wound breakdown, skin loss, and infection.

  • Stop smoking and all nicotine (including vaping, patches, gum) at least 4 weeks before surgery
  • Avoid restarting for at least 4 weeks after

If you need support, we’re happy to refer you to stop-smoking services.

Weight & Body Composition

Your weight can affect anaesthetic risk, wound healing, and complication rates.

  • BMI below 30 is generally recommended for optimal outcomes, a safer anaesthesia and better healing.
  • If you’re above this range, we may recommend gradual, healthy weight loss before surgery.
  • Avoid rapid weight changes right before or after surgery, as they can affect skin and breast tissue quality.

We’re here to guide you if you’re unsure where your weight stands in relation to your planned surgery.

Alcohol, Sleep & Activity

  • Sleep well – Aim for 7–9 hours per night to strengthen your immune system.
  • Reduce alcohol – Limit to no more than 1–2 drinks a week in the month before surgery.
  • Stay active – Light exercise like walking helps circulation, mood, and body tone.

Mental preparation matters too. Feeling informed and confident leads to a smoother recovery experience — we’re always here to answer your questions.

When to Start

Begin making these changes at least 4–6 weeks before your surgery date. Think of it as an investment in you – for a safer operation, smoother healing, and results that last.

Your body will thank you – and so will your results.
